Who We Are

Please download the Welcome Card to understand the worship style, sanctuary and other important information.
CUMC was born out of a Christian revival that swept across Southern Indiana in the early 19th century. If you’re a student of history, you may recognize this as being a part of the Second Great Awakening.

In keeping with our evangelical tradition, we seek to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”

But what is a disciple?

We believe that all people have experienced the grace of God in their lives, whether conscious of it or not. We also believe that God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, calls all people to relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.

It is only after we’re awakened to the magnificent grace of God in our lives that we can become disciples. In the same way, once we’ve received this awakening, we can’t help but share the love of God with others.

That’s a disciple, and that’s our mission.

Our Historic Church

The Corydon United Methodist church has been on the square in Corydon for nearly 200 years and an important part of the town of Corydon even longer.  The congregation actually started in 1807 as a station on the Silver Creek circuit and met in homes and even in the first Capitol building until we built our first church on Elm Street in 1826.  There have been three different buildings in the same location, our latest church built in 1924.  We are still using the pulpit from our 1850 building and the window at the front of the sanctuary was in our building in 1909.

We are proud of our history in Corydon, but excited about the challenge of serving our community today.

What to Expect

Our Traditions worship service honors the traditions of our Christian heritage while remaining open to new ways of expressing our timeless faith. We like to think that our worship is beautifully reverent; honoring the traditions of the church through Scripture readings, recitation of The Lord’s Prayer and the Apostle’s Creed, and the preaching of the Word in a comfortable atmosphere. Musically, you will experience a blend of styles that are aided by the use of a soon-to-be-installed projection system.

Communion is offered monthly.
